This year im starting all AG 's directly in these 2 gallon bags of pro mix bx. Bottom heat mat till i saw sines of life, then killed the heat.Im warm watering with a little Neptunes seaweed. The roots won't be hindered at all till they hit the bottom or side's. The 1947 is an amazing specimen for 6 days since seed soaking. They are all doing amazing and i expect the growth to excel of course.lol

The watermelons seem to love my poor mans lighting! All my plants do really. They are just daylight CFL bulbs from Menards, on splitters so 4 hang under a foil turky pan.lol... ill post a better pic of them. One of the melon plants has flowers and lots of side vines and very compact. I plan on bringing BIG plants to my patch. Im growing on rented land and cant set up heated cold frames or heat coils. Ill make it work !!!

I Absolutely need to share this with you guys. To prove the resilience of a seed in the first sprouting stage..... I planted these two seeds at the same time. A 186 glasgow and a 109 glasgow. I really really wanted to grow the 109. I got impatient and started scratching at the soil of the 109 to check for growth. Well...i snapped the seed off from its 3 inch tap root. I shamed myself for a while then stuck the broken seed (with no root at all ) back in the dirt for some reason. I checked it a couple days later just because i was mad at myself. And it sprouted 4 tap roots right from the break! ! Not only did it grow...it has the biggest leaves from what was grown in that batch. !!!! And plant size the same or bigger. its the plant on the right in the pic. It makes me think of crazy ideas like snapping the first tap root so you get multiple main tap roots.hmmmm...not any crazier then grafting right !!! Lol. So cool...

Well. I seem to poison my AGs with to much light. They always have scrunched up first true leaves. But.. The 1399 Christensen seems to not care. Its going to out grow all the others pritty quick like. Its hard when the melons seem to like 24 hours of light but. The punks might only want 12. Hmmmm

Finally got some time to post to my diary.
I got squash, melon and AG's in yesterday. They are out in the elements, I'm a little nervous. But they have been outside for a week or so hardning off in their grow bags in so very cold temps . They can handle it. It sprinkled all last night but the plants seemed to like it. I warm watered them at time of planting with a little seaweed and tarantula to settle them in to their new homes. They aren't as big as I hoped at transplant time but it slowed them way down in the hardening off that I had to do. Wish them luck. I'll post close ups.

186 glasgow.. Same mound treatment but master garden mix instead of pro mix. Oh..I should make note that I planted all the plants somewhat in their sides to get them on the ground and running as soon as possible,in the direction that I want them to go. Im in a very windy spot. I'm holding them in place with old weed stalks that I found near by. Free! Lol

109 glasgow. This seed grew the 241 glasgow that I'm also growing and I'll cross the two. also if you read the start of my diary ,this is the seed that I broke the tap root off of when it first started growing, it shit out 4 tap roots amazingly from the break. So we'll see how it dose compared to the other two. So 3 melon plants in the patch. I only have to top 120.5 so I'm exited to see what I can make happen.

1399 Christensen .. This plant ended up growing bigger and better then all the rest, not by much but enuff to make me think this plant has what it takes to make big things happen. We'll keep a close eye on it. From here on out all the planting mounds got the same treatment, I dug down into the hard pack and mixed in a shitload of potting mix to get the main root balls going. Some got pro mix others got master garden brand.

1947 clementz. I know all who is growing this seed is dreaming of a bright orange 2000lb beauty . I can't wait to see how the plant dose. It made it through my flawed seed starting prosses and the hardening off like a true champ. It will rock this year. I'm so sad that my 1317 didn't make the cut for MY,patch. Its leaves arnt forming right because I suck at starting seedlings . or somthing.it will do just fine but..it didn't make the cut.I'm holding it as a back up for now. It will see dirt no matter what, where??? I'm not sure yet,but there's a couple people that will be happy to grow it if I end up not needing it.

1561 Reeb .. What a beautiful fruit. Self pollinated and mega orange. So crossed with the 1399 or 1947,magic will happen.lol. as a side note I started two 1561's in the exact same flawed conditions. One looked great, the other had the deformed leaves like the 1317.hmmm I'd like to think that my flawed seedling starting technic is weeding out the week plants from the strong. If all the seedlings you start are in amazing optimal conditions it would be hard to tell the week from the adaptive and strong. I'm probably poopin in the wind on this just so I feel better.haaha

Finally got some size on my plants. This is the king of the patch. The 1399. I crossed the main vine punk with the 1561 and also the. same day a side vine with the 1561. Both on the 4th of July.I wanted to cross it with the 1317 but had no males. Note to self....don't bury everything....lol. But on the 5th I did cross one with the 1317. The way it's growing I could let it grow 4 fruits. I sooooo sadly had to pull the 1947... A micro burst from a bad storm crushed it and it never recovered.:(
The only other small problem is..the main vine pollination had a large scar on the bottom of the punk that could cause problems later. That why I might let this plant grow a couple fruit..

Finally might have some good fast growing fruit for the first time in my life. The 1399 is not disappointing me. It was day 10 for the twins. Some on vines that are being trained as new mains. I still might try 4 on this one.

I could tell by his amazement and questions that he's going to be a grower! . but..I didn't give him my contact info before he left. I did however tell him to come here to BP and told him to check out the diarys and everything. So Vince ( I think your name was) lol. Scroll to the top of my diary of you see this. And on the left is a button to email me. Shoot me an email and I'll help get you started. The best time to start for next year is RIGHT NOW! Lol. This reminds me of them lost connections personal adds.lol don't worry we don't have to date! Lol

Oh wow. I just noticed something that I forgot about,( check out my may 2nd post) that seed that I snapped the entire tap root off got me my new PB. I know it was still a small melon ,but hear me out quick.....I grew 3 plants all in the same conditions. All were not happy with my soil. Or my lack of melon knowledge. The vines grew so slow and the weeds got so bad that at some points it was hard to tell if a melon plant was even there. Doh! Anyway... that seed that I thought (fore sure) I killed .ended up having the best roots of them all.
So call me crazy, but I might snap the seedling tap root next year at the 2 inch size to get multiple main tap roots going. Then I'll mulch for weeds and try to give them a soil that they like. Its probably a stupid idea..but...life is like a box of chocolates!

I like when I get a seedling with more than two cotyledon leavs. It makes me think the main stalk will be fused and likely to crank out big fused blooms.

Sooo. Happy. I got my MH bulb in the mail today. To replace the broken one. Its glowing waaaaay! Bright! I got it set at 600watts about 36 " above the test plants. Let's see if they are still alive in the morning.lol

So the test plants survived the new light .so now the real plants are in! I planted two. The strongest one gets to stay. I put foam board over my bin to stop the wasted light from heating up and drying out my soil . also the light will now get reflected back up to the lights reflector and back to the plant , and the undersides of the leaves as well. I also set the light ballast to 200 watts and lowered it for now. No sense wasting so much power on plants that only take up 16 square inches each.lol. I'll crank up the power as they grow!

These are the two in battle for their new home.lol. I want to keep the one on the left because it's the plant that had three cotyledon leaves.and sure enuff , it shot out three true leaves as expected! I see a large mega bloom in its future,on it's first set of flowers, unless it splits into two main stalks soon. In that case I'll keep the one on the right! The pic qualley is crap because my camera can't handle the light.lol. let's hope the plants can!!!!!!!

I cut off the first seed pod from my Thailand giant, it looks slimy and funky.lol. but I think that's how they are supposed to look. Lol. It smelled sweet.not rotton. Just incase.. I cut off one that wasent as far gone and mixed the seeds,if they are seeds, it's hard to tell what's what on this weird ass plant. All I know is I NEED to get these things to sprout.!!!

Now I'm just soaking the seeds for 12 hours on a heat mat and then it's sprouting time.
I was happy to see that most of the berry/seeds sank...that's good. I think! Lol
I need to get these to grow. Just imagine sitting under a 6 foot leaf in the rain watching your garden grow well perfectly dry! Can't get better then that!

My indoor tomatoes are on fire with growth! This pic is 6 days from the last pic. At first I saw some yellowing in the first true leaves, it might have been that the root balls were to wet for to long after the transplant into the new bin, but I also thought Mag deficiency so I sprayed with Epsom salt and a little fish. They haven't got any more water since the transplant and the next water they get will be from the bottom so the roots get down all the way. I'm happy, but now I have to decide which plant to keep. Hmmm. It will be hard to pull one. I think I will pull the one one the right and stick to my plan.

Here's a close up the best that I could get. They are hard to photograph when they are moveing and turning, they are in a vortex of water to keep them growing clear and true. I'll post a pick when I harvest the big main crystal in a month or three.lol. fun fun

My plant is growing nicely. The bottom leaves are a little funky but I think I have it on the right track now. I switched it from the MH to the HPS bulb to flower. The plant is so small Im not sure if I want it to grow the megabloom that's developing, but I'm going to wait a bit and see what happens.

Things are happening fast.! Plant is growing well but not perfect. It seemed to not like the dramatic switch from the MH to the HPS. Now it is should be in flower mode. It's stretching out a bit but I expected that. The keeper bloom should open in 4 to 5 days.yay!!!! My bin is so big I've only watered twice since the plant went in. It will need water soon. I'm just trying to make the strong roots get to the bottom. Still not sure if this plant has what it takes to give me an indoor slammer!! Lol

Here's the bloom!! It looks like a fatty triple so far. I can't wait to pollinate it. Even 1 gram will give me a new PB for indoor.lol. but that surely wont do for one of the ribbons. I think I'll have time to re set,or clone, and start over before the first day of spring. So you other guys in on the challange! Bring it! Lol
It's all in fun fun!
