Meanwhile this past week two of my 198 Ciesielski Jumbo black diamond's got sunscald. It had a burlap shade tent over it. My guess is I let the melon get too close and it got cooked. You need air space between the top of your fruit and the covering! Either way I am going back to the white grain bags over the top. But next year they will be at least a foot above the fruit.. I am tired of making stupid mistakes, as this was my best grower. Its still a perfectly viable entry, but I dont think it will do much from here on out. I am hoping to enter it somewhere and get it weighed in the near future. I haven't measured it, but it might be close to 200?
Next year I want to grow squash for competition so I have to get this problem figured out. In the past when I have grown squash, a single sheet was not enough. And they turned a brownish color.
