2026 preseason update: the mustard comes down tomorrow! Spring has been pretty cool so far. One of the interesting things about doing the cover crop is it shows some of the soil variability in the patch. Threw a little calcium nitrate on to get things moving a bit. I think the temps and high OM content have led to some nitrogen lock and uneven growth.
Prety mustard patch chopped, tilled, and rolled. Lot less scenic now. Upgrade my tiller and now have a lightly-used 19" rear-tine Champion I found of Facebook marketplace. Tiller works well though it tends to mound the dirt up on either side of the unit. Next cover crop will go in in about a month.
