I've decided not to bury because of the success Dave Stelts has had and knowing how my soil drains I feel I would run into issues if they were buried.
Just wondering what solutions people have come up with to support the vines, I had one roll the other day in a storm.
I have been planning to use bamboo stakes and secure leaf stems to the stake with Velcro plant tape but wondered if there is another way.
Anyone know what Dave does?

I use weights on the tendril or on the vine. (It acts as a root, until we get the real roots to grow and anchor the vine) I have not had any troubles with them tipping over. I realize some growers are located in windier locations.

I don't have really 'Big Mama' leaves to speak of yet on mine, butt soon, and I'm sworn to use my 500 3' stakes as much as possible. I'd LIKE to use 2 stakes per big leaf on just one plant if that's all I had to protect - one on one side of the stem, right up to the base of the leaf and one on the other side, at or almost to the same height/point as the first. The problem could be that it forms a pivot point that could stress the stalk at that point and it might break off. If the stake is long enough and the stalk's pivot point is a few inches from the end of the stake(s), there may be enough flex throughout to not have a problem. Liking the use of the Velcro tape; Perhaps keep it all very loose and it'll go well. Kinda itchin' to put my BS to good use, over here!
Good Luck! eric g
