I have two pumpkin plants nearly ready to go in the ground outdoors. My wife made the suggestion that I plant them both and then sacrifice the weaker of the two in a couple of weeks.
That may or may not offer an advantage or disadvantage to growing a viable giant pumpkin. I have two other backups in seedling pots as well, just in case.
