Sanded and soaking of seeds today. Planting two plants this year. Haven't decided on the 150 contest yet. I'm only going to soak the seeds about 5 hours. I'll be starting seeds in 1 gal split pots, in promix myco. I may forgo the heating pad since the grow light generates enough warmth for germination. Seeds with backups are the 2021 Hoornstra and the 2465 Dawson. This year I will be drenching the planting hole with Azoxystrobin fungicide a week prior to planting. This was recommended to my by Western Laboratories based on a resent soil disease test that indicate "high" levels of fusarium, i.e. 1000 cfu. According to the lab, not high enough to jump ship, but high enough to take a wack at it.

Oops! My two Hoornstra plants are not both 2021's as stated in the previous entry. One is the 2265.5 So, which one to pick - don't know. One is a Gieger x Wolf and the other is the same cross but Wolf x Gieger. So mother line or father line - hmmm!

I'm going with small stones in nylon fruit bags to hold and support vines instead of burying them this year.

Attached is the first of several photos showing the progression of a plant problem. My plants have suffered with this (as have I) for the last 3-4 years. Things start out ok and everything looks healthy but over time leaves newer growth starts to show some yellowing which gets worse and finally all the new growth is deformed, stunted, and pitiful. If a pumpkin has been pollinated it will begin to show white blotches and bleach out, finally aborting and rotting. This can happen anytime even if it > 200-300 lb. I've had soil test which show nothing crazy. This years disease test indicated fairly high levels of fusarium and pythium which I've treat with azoxystrobin. If you have any idea what's causing this please let me know.
