Monday, March 3 View Page
I put the clear (ish) poly down to help warm the soil. I would have put down the IRT film everywhere but I can't anchor it in the frozen soil.

Monday, March 3 View Page
You can see the shadow of the snow outside. Melting pretty fast this week.

Monday, March 3 View Page
Got the shack out in the melon patch. Time to get the snow melted.

Monday, March 3 View Page
I put out the shack in the shop patch last week. There's a little less snow now.

Sunday, March 9 View Page
Little bit of melting this week but it's starting to snow again today.

Sunday, March 9 View Page
Melon patch.

Sunday, March 9 View Page
Erected the shack last week.

Friday, March 21 View Page
First of the peppers are up. Planted Sunday. 5 days

Friday, March 21 View Page
Had to change out this cable thermostat. Snow should not exist at 118°F

Saturday, March 22 View Page
Have some of my orange scorpions up. And a Habanero.

Saturday, March 22 View Page
Soil cables installed. Also added some pro mix to the pit to loosen it up. After 12" it's all clay so I didn't go past that point

Sunday, March 23 View Page
Ok. Here it goes. Primary pots 162 Crews black diamond. Backups 202 Crews. I never thought my 205 Kent black diamond plant got a fair chance. Spider mites, extra fruit set and it still did 162. They seem much sweeter than the Carolina Cross so there's that too.

Sunday, March 23 View Page
Here's a pic of the 162

Tuesday, March 25 View Page
Batch of peppers I planted on the 20th are starting to sprout. The first batch had the heat mat germ chamber. These ones just had a 24/7 light but the temp is a perfect 85°f.

Cabbage and related vegetables

Tuesday, March 25 View Page
Meanwhile, outside, it is melting some. Our forecast sucks.

Wednesday, March 26 View Page
I know what this is. I put two seeds in. One by the side , one in the middle. If both come up it's easy to dig the side one out.

Wednesday, March 26 View Page
This one is obvious. I put the seeds in on their side. Takes a little while longer but I don't usually have to remove the seed coat.

Thursday, March 27 View Page
By morning things had happened. The 202 should have been taken out of the chamber. Made that mistake a couple of times before so why not one more time. Melons need lots of light.

Saturday, March 29 View Page
Watermelons doing fine. Very convenient that @Chapmans_Canada makes the best ice cream because after it's gone it's a great pot. Pretty sure I need some more pots.

Saturday, March 29 View Page
Greenhouse made it. Little bit of snow over the last couple of days.

Wednesday, April 2 View Page
Planted on March28. The 858.9 Olsen was last up. Biggest pot and It felt slightly cooler than the 2 small ones. The 858 had the heat mat probe in it. Temp set at 30°C or 85°F. The small ones were warm to the touch so maybe 35° (95) or more.

Wednesday, April 9 View Page
It's a go! 858 Olsen. It's a little yellow but that seems to be a thing with this seed starter mix. I have one more that just sprouted that's a backup. Don't collect them, plant them.

Friday, April 11 View Page
Soil cables installed. Also added some pro mix to the pit to loosen it up. After 12" it's all clay so I didn't go past that point

Watermelon 162 Crews. It's a 205 Kent jumbo Black Diamond x self.

Sunday, April 13 View Page
858.9 Olsen is greening up and looking good

Friday, April 18 View Page
858.9 Olsen is doing good. The leaf is a little fried from the heater but that'll let the plant tip over easier.

Friday, April 18 View Page
The 162 Black Diamond is growing. Not sure about the light colour veins. Means I'll be looking up stuff.

Friday, April 18 View Page
2234 Moretti is in. Haven't grown in this patch for awhile and it'll need work yet. Was my best patch.

Wednesday, April 23 View Page
After 6 days of waiting, the long gourds are up.

Friday, April 25 View Page
858.9 Olsen has almost made it down. About 3'ft Has to go wide with the Camera.

Friday, April 25 View Page
2234 Moretti is adapting to its surroundings

Friday, April 25 View Page
Incidentally, the air temp inside the 858.9 Olsen shack was 34°c and the leaf temp was under 22°C. For those calculating VPD the humidity was 72.8% The app won't let me enter more than 5° difference in air temp/leaf temp. The point is that a greenhouse can have a much warmer temp without harm if conditions are right.

Friday, April 25 View Page
The 162 Crews JBD watermelon is vining. Luckily I got it the right way. Not always the way it works with watermelons.

Sunday, May 4 View Page
858.9 Olsen is doing great. Have to use the heater at night but today we almost hit 30° C

Monday, May 5 View Page
Transplanted the 102 Crews long gourd. Was going to make a dedicated shack for it but here we are. Only so much time. Couldn't find my little trellis either. Adapt. Improvise. Overcome.

Sunday, May 11 View Page
102 Crews Long gourd is starting to vine

Sunday, May 11 View Page
2234 Moretti is running towards the end of the shack thus forcing a greenhouse building situation.

Sunday, May 11 View Page
Saskatoon trees.

Sunday, May 11 View Page
Apple tree is recovering slowly from the porcupine. That's was a couple of years again and no, the porcupine did not survive. Let that be a lesson to those that eat our trees. Theres still that deer. One day deer. One day.

Sunday, May 11 View Page
Field pumpkin are up next.

Monday, May 12 View Page
Field pumpkins up. Thats 3 days. Giant cantaloupe there too.

Monday, May 12 View Page
Started the giant onions from seed. Have my doubts that I can get them to giant status lol.

Monday, May 19 View Page
This was supposed to be a pic of the watermelon but focus was on the rutabagas and giant cauliflower I was trying to transplant before dark. Spoiler, I didn't make it.

Monday, May 19 View Page
The Moretti pumpkin has a bit of green house now. Put that up in a 50 k wind which unfortunately is so common in May that you can't wait for a calm day because it might never happen.

Monday, May 19 View Page
The 858 Olsen looks Happy. The first female that is allowed to stay is on the end of the vine.

Monday, May 19 View Page
Long gourd was released from captivity. It's a little cool for it yet, I never made the special cold frame up but it has to be free.

Monday, May 19 View Page
Transplanted some field pumpkins. It's cool outside so not much will happen. This is the largest, the 136.7 Young.

Monday, May 19 View Page
The 214.5 Young #1, I have 2 of these started.

Monday, May 19 View Page
144.1 Crews FP. Going to give it another shot.

Sunday, May 25 View Page
2234 Moretti hoop house sort of completed, somewhat, almost.

Sunday, May 25 View Page
858 Olsen is coming along nicely.

Monday, May 26 View Page
Also transplanted 4 more FP's, a giant cabbage and a giant cantaloupe. Changed the blades on the mower, mowed the lawn, setup the watering system and watered everything. Didn't have much time for pics.

Friday, May 30 View Page
858.9 Olsen x 2234 Moretti Really hot today so hopefully it's a hot weather rated fruit.

Saturday, May 31 View Page
Set up the 858 Olsen landing pad. Going to be optimistic.

Saturday, May 31 View Page
The 2234 Moretti is a compact plant. Secondaries are close together and vines are low. I'll hit it with some N.

Saturday, June 7 View Page
This is the tip of the main on the Moretti plant. Shriveled in the heat. Definitely grower error, I have done this in this patch a couple of times. Should have shaded it. I'll train the secondary that was furthest out to be the new main.

Saturday, June 7 View Page
144.1 Crews FP and it's going the wrong way. In my other spots it wouldn't matter but this one it's a no go. lol. About to do something extremish.

Saturday, June 7 View Page
There. Didn't break.

Saturday, June 7 View Page
The now main vineless 2234 Moretti was doing well before the growing error. Hopefully, it won't be a huge setback.

Saturday, June 7 View Page
The tip of the Moretti main

Saturday, June 7 View Page
The 858 Olsen plant and young fruit. It's a bit pear shaped but that might be ok.

Saturday, June 7 View Page
The now main vineless 2234 Moretti plant. Hopefully not a huge setback.

Saturday, June 7 View Page
I pollinated another fruit on the 858 just in case. It's not my usual MO but running out of space for any more. Needed some help picking a direction so I gave it a suggestion of a direction.

Saturday, June 7 View Page
The 162 black diamond watermelon is doing well. Have potential pollination on the main and if you look close you can see one on a secondary. My sensorpush stops working at 45 now though lol. 60 cooked it.

Thursday, June 12 View Page
The 858 Olsen is still pear shaped. I don't want to do that thing that I may have to do. It's a super fast growing plant. I'm almost out of greenhouse.

Thursday, June 12 View Page
858 Olsen plan B. Pollinated June 6 with the 2234 Moretti. It's coming of the vine a bit of a tough angle.

Thursday, June 12 View Page
858 Olsen plan C. Ooops damn. This is typical for this greenhouse at this time of year. Soil warms up and the N is released. This is the main but I've lost 4 secondary vines so far as well

Thursday, June 12 View Page
The plan C fruit may still be in play. Interesting how the peduncle is inside the vine.

Thursday, June 12 View Page
The 2234 Moretti is growing a secondary to take over for the main. It's a healthy plant.

Thursday, June 12 View Page
Giant onions. Wish we get the rain we need soon.

Giant red cabbages, large rutabaga and some giant cauliflower.

Thursday, June 12 View Page
The 144.1 Crews FP is slowly being forced the other way. Next time I'll run it south since all plants want to go that way.

Not shown, all the tomatoes

Saturday, June 14 View Page
The 162 Crews black diamond watermelon plant. Pollinated some on some large vines. Hopefully get a main set. Early pollination is clearly visible now. This time my sweet spot for pollination.

Saturday, June 14 View Page
858 Olsen 15 Dap Still has the pear shape. Until #2 shows me a better shape this will have to stay on. Clearly I'm worried because back in 2016 I had one like this that got huge but ended with a pic of sad Don and soup.

Sunday, June 15 View Page
858 Olsen first pollinated fruit started developing a step in the front. It had to go. Sail on#1

Sunday, June 15 View Page
858 Olsen #2 Pollinated June 6, 4 lobe 858 Olsen x 2234 Moretti Hopes and dreams and lots of plant behind it.

Sunday, June 15 View Page
2234 Moretti has a secondary coming off where the tip burned off. It has a flower on it. There is barely enough room but I've screwed up so many times this year what's one more time.

Tuesday, June 17 View Page
2234 Moretti This is a secondary that replaced the main. You can see the original main in the healed spot on the right side by the leaf stalk. I've done this before but this is the best it's ever turned out.

Wednesday, June 18 View Page
2234 Moretti x 858.9 Olsen Now we wait.

Saturday, June 21 View Page
858 Olsen #2 15 Dap much better shape than the first set. Running out of greenhouse, vine terminations well underway. It has a curved stem off the vine though.

Sunday, June 22 View Page
162 Crews Black Diamond watermelon #1 pollinated about May 29

Sunday, June 22 View Page
162 Crews Black Diamond watermelon #2 pollinated about June 12

Sunday, June 22 View Page
162 Black Diamond #3 pollinated June 14 Need to cull at least one of these.

Sunday, June 22 View Page
2234 Moretti The plan is to run the new secondary as a main on the right, back and across, turn to go forwards and then run secondaries only to the right , flag style. The secondary on the left will run tertiary's to the left, flag style. It's actually the fourth secondary from the fruit.
